Midnight Commander supports the FTP protocol which makes it easy to get direct access to any storage that is added to a SME Account using the SME FTP cloud protocol adaptor. What is this I hear you ask ? Well, simply put, it enables files you have stored on public or private storage to be accessible over any of the protocols Storage Made Easy exposes ie FTP, FTPS, WebDav, S3, SFTP. This is interesting from a Storage Made Easy viewpoint as although SME providers a full suite of Linux tools, SME also provider protocol interoperability as part of its Cloud Gateway features. One of the unsung features of the Midnight Commander (also available on other platforms including phones (I used to use this on my old Nokia N900) and windows and mac) is that it can connect to server over FTP. Its design was initially inspired by the classic two pane interface that was found in Norton Commander which was a DOS file manager (for those who remember !). Once you need to upload many more files or the same files across multiple environments consistently, you’ll need a more heavy-duty IaC tool like Ansible. Organizing your content using a desktop UI is very quick and convenient for a relatively small number of files to upload. It all comes down to using the right tool for the job. We just learned how to upload some files and organize our files in folders on S3 with LocalStack and AWS. Commandeer supports adding multiple files all at once. You can also click on the upload file button and choose the files from your computer. Then just drag and drop the files you would like to add into the drag and drop area. # Add FilesĪdding files is quite straightforward, just choose a folder or a bucket you would like to add the files in. Folders can be nested, if you would like to create another folder inside the newly created folder, just choose the new folder from the side navigation panel and repeat the process again. Feel free to repeat the process if you would like to create multiple folders. Click on the bucket you just created either in the table view or inside the side navigation. S3 Folders can be added using Commandeer UI. If you feel more adventurous, you can create it using Ansible by following Create S3 Bucket with Ansible tutorial. Navigate to S3 under the AWS section in the side navigation pane. The simplest way is creating a bucket in Commandeer. You can create a bucket in a variety of different ways. # Create BucketĬreating a bucket is very simple. If you prefer to work with a real AWS account instead, just choose a real account in the account select dropdown to create some files and folders in the real AWS S3. If you have the local account selected, the rest of the tutorial will create some content in LocalStack S3. If you would like to create some files and folders in LocalStack, just start LocalStack and switch to your local account in the account dropdown.
